Clinical depression affects more than 19 million Americans each year. It is a real illness that can be treated effectively. Unfortunately, fewer than half of the people who have this illness seek treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Too many people believe that it is a \u201cnormal\u201d part of life and that they can treat it themselves.\u00a0 Left untreated, depression poses a huge burden on those that suffer from the symptoms.\u00a0 It can cause unnecessary suffering and disruption in one&#8217;s life and work.<\/p>\n<p>If not addressed at the right time, it can lead to an increasing sense of hopelessness or suicidal feelings, and a person may try to harm himself\/herself or end life.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-120-0-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-120-0-1-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_black-studio-tinymce widget_black_studio_tinymce panel-first-child panel-last-child\" data-index=\"1\" ><div class=\"textwidget\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/xml-io.proteusthemes.com\/mentalpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2015\/02\/image-31.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-79\" src=\"https:\/\/xml-io.proteusthemes.com\/mentalpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2015\/02\/image-31.jpg\" alt=\"MentalPress\" width=\"850\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/xml-io.proteusthemes.com\/mentalpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2015\/02\/image-45.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-93\" src=\"https:\/\/xml-io.proteusthemes.com\/mentalpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/20\/2015\/02\/image-45.jpg\" alt=\"MentalPress\" width=\"850\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pg-120-1\"  class=\"panel-grid panel-no-style\" ><div id=\"pgc-120-1-0\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\" ><div id=\"panel-120-1-0-0\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-first-child\" data-index=\"2\" >\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p>I work with clients who struggle with depression to help find ways to help you find your way through the fog and mire.\u00a0 Depression is not a character flaw or a sign of personal weakness.\u00a0 Unfortunately, it isn&#8217;t often possible to make yourself well by trying to &#8220;snap out of it.&#8221;\u00a0 The direct causes of depression are not fully known, what is known is that body chemistry can bring on a depressive disorder and\/or your struggle with depression could be due to experiencing a traumatic event, hormonal changes, altered health habits, the presence of another illness, or substance abuse.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div id=\"panel-120-1-0-1\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_text panel-last-child\" data-index=\"3\" ><h3 class=\"widget-title\">But what is depression?<\/h3>\t\t\t<div class=\"textwidget\"><p><strong>The signs and symptoms of clinical depression may include:<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\n~ Persistent sad, anxious, or &#8220;empty&#8221; mood<\/p>\n<p>~ Reduced appetite and weight loss, or increased appetite and weight gain<\/p>\n<p>~ Loss of pleasure and interest in once-enjoyable activities, including sex<\/p>\n<p>~ Changes in sleep patterns<\/p>\n<p>~ Restlessness, irritability, anger, worry, agitation, anxiety, pessimism, indifference<\/p>\n<p>~ Persistent physical symptoms that do not respond to treatment, such as chronic pain or digestive disorders<\/p>\n<p>~ Difficulty concentrating at work or at school, or difficulty remembering things or making decisions<\/p>\n<p>~ Fatigue or loss of energy<\/p>\n<p>~ Feeling guilty, hopeless, or worthless<\/p>\n<p>~ Thoughts of suicide or death<\/p>\n<p>~ Unexplained crying spells<\/p>\n<p>~ Significant changes in sleep patterns<\/p>\n<p>~ Unexplained aches and pains<\/p>\n<p>If you experience five or more of these symptoms for two weeks or longer, you might have clinical depression. Seeing a doctor or qualified mental health professional could help.<\/p>\n<p>Depression is a condition, which one should not confuse with the short-term emotional distress, anxiety attacks, or feeling low, which also are symptoms of depression.\u00a0 Anyone can feel low for a brief period of time, or have anxiety attacks once in a while, but that does not mean they are suffering from depression.\u00a0 Depression can be much more serious than that, and is a persistent feeling of sadness, loneliness, grief, uselessness, and emotional pain, which one should not confuse with the short-term emotional distress, anxiety attacks, or feeling low, which also are symptoms of depression.\u00a0 Anyone can feel low for a brief period of time, or have anxiety attacks once in a while, but that does not mean they are suffering from depression.\u00a0 Depression can be much more serious than that, and is a persistent feeling of sadness, loneliness, grief, uselessness, and emotional pain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Depression is a mental illness, which one should not confuse with the short-term emotional distress, anxiety attacks or feeling low, which also are constituents of depression.
